    Strabo[n 1] (; Greek: ΣτράβωνStrábōn; 64 or 63 BC – c. 24 AD) was an ancient Greekgeographer who lived in Asia Minor during the transitional period of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire.

    He is best known for his work Geographica, which presented a descriptive history of people and places from different regions of the world known during his lifetime.[1] Additionally, Strabo authored historical works, but only fragments and quotations of these survive in the writings of other authors.

    Life

    Strabo was born to an affluent family from Amaseia in Pontus (in present-day Cappadocia) in around 64 BC.[2] His family had been involved in politics since at least the reign of Mithridates V.[3] Strabo was related to Dorylaeus on h
